The Four Horseshoes is a traditional 15th century cottage style pub on the edge of Checkendon village. Part thatched, the building is full of character and atmosphere and makes a wonderful spot to sip on a pint of Brakspear ale or enjoy a nicely chilled glass of wine. Food at the Four Horseshoes is freshly cooked - much of it locally sourced - and there is a delightful restaurant area, which leads out to a really lovely large garden where you can enjoy your food and children can play. In winter, there are not one but three real fires to warm even the most adventurous walker. The walks are fantastic, and this is a popular place to stop; along the road is a stunning old Norman church, which leads to lovely rural walks and scenery for which the Chiltern area is so well known.

The Fox and Hounds at Christmas Common is best known for its enchanting rural position, rustic and cosy atmosphere, and good wholesome country food prepared from seasonal ingredients that are locally sourced wherever possible. After a long walk around the idyllic countryside (covered in Christmas trees!), or along the ridgeway for the more adventurous, sit by the cosy inglenook fireplace at the Fox & Hounds and try a dish of local game, sourced from the neighbouring Turville Valley, roasted and cooked in its own juices. A great pint of Brakspear Beer is the ideal accompaniment and many a pleasant hour can be spent in this warm, comfortable country pub.

The George is a traditional single bar community local with a patio garden at the rear. It is near the A23 on the outskirts of Croydon Town Centre. The George offers a home made lunchtime menu, weekly quizzes and entertainment on a monthly basis. A darts team operates in the winter league.

The George and Dragon is in the beautiful village of Speldhurst, opposite the church and close to Tunbridge Wells. From the outside the George & Dragon is the perfect village inn, from the black and white Tudor exterior, to the warm inglenook log fires inside; the atmosphere is comfortable and welcoming. Great emphasis is placed on modern British cooking, with chefs buying from local organic farms and producers; English cheeses are a speciality. There is a large range of traditional local ales and a good wine list. These can be enjoyed in the two cosy downstairs bars and gardens, or in the grand upstairs restaurant.
